Abstract, aluminum electrolytic and DC film capacitors are widely used in all types of inverter power systems, from variable-speed drives to welders, UPS systems and inverters for renewable energy.
For three-phase inverters at any DC bus voltage, for films and electrolytics, respectively, a rule of thumb is that about 5 and 50 millicoulombs of capacitor nameplate CV rating will be required per amp of ripple current.
The energy storage capacitor’s value in the APB was 220uF, and with the use of a similarly sized capacitor as the DC capacitor, the 2ω-ripple voltage amounted to approximately 30% of the DC voltage.
Currently, electrolytic capacitors (E-caps) predominate on the DC bus of the single-phase converter. E-caps have a high capacitance-to-volume ratio and are inexpensive. Large capacitors can effectively dampen the 2ω power ripple endemic to single-phase systems.
The PV grid-connected inverter also needs large E-cap on the DC side to absorb the 2ω- ripple power, and how to optimally select this capacitor is a hot topic in recent years to study the efficiency of the PV grid-connected power system .
