To start the recycling process, first the EVA resin need to be removed. This is important because EVA resin helps protect PV modules from moisture. Traditional methods like using nitric acid or heat to remove EVA from PV modules often fall short.
The durability of PV modules depends on factors like the wearing down of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) from exposure to sunlight, structural weaknesses caused by things like broken glass, and natural flaws in how the PV cells are layered.
In this study, xylene, a sole organic solvent, was employed to detach silicon wafers from damaged solar modules. However, the EVA resin adhered firmly to the silicon wafer, making manual removal difficult. Therefore, a muffle furnace was utilized to heat the silicon adhered with EVA resin at 130 °C for 3 h.
Recovery efforts primarily target metallic resources such as silicon, silver, copper, lead, and tin from first-generation PVs, along with critical elements including tellurium, indium, selenium, and gallium from second-generation PVs.
