Abstract In recent years, solid-state lithium batteries (SSLBs) using solid electrolytes (SEs) have been widely recognized as the key next-generation energy storage technology due to its high safety, high energy density, long cycle life, good rate performance and wide operating temperature range.
The solid-state battery (SSB) is a novel technology that has a higher specific energy density than conventional batteries. This is possible by replacing the conventional liquid electrolyte inside batteries with a solid electrolyte to bring more benefits and safety.
Batteries used in challenging locations (such as offshore or in mines) can pose higher risks, and HSE requires additional measures including a detailed risk assessment and consideration of appropriate mitigations to prevent, detect and respond to battery failure.
The complexity of manufacturing, handling and production of SSBs raises the cost and prohibits the mass production and integration of these types of batteries in everyday use . Because the electrolyte in SSBs is solid rather than liquid, their manufacturing process differs from that of LiB.
